DR-2589 is a specially designed plastic Rutile grade with good durability. DR-2589 specialities are super bluish undertone, outstanding lightness in coloring and excellent opacity.   The special inorganic treatment of dense amorphous silica and alumina protects the surface of Tio2 from acting with polymers or additives. The organic surface treatment ensures DR-2589 outstanding dispersion, processibility and low hygroscopicity in plastics production. The new treatment technology of DR-2589 can effectively improve the heat resistance, light fastness and weathering of plastics and keep them free from UV lights.

Titanium dioxide (TiO₂) is a naturally occurring oxide of titanium and is widely used in various applications due to its excellent properties. Here are some key details about titanium dioxide:

1. Physical Properties:

  • Appearance: It is a white, odorless powder.
  • Molecular formula: TiO₂.
  • Density: Around 4.23 g/cm³.
  • Melting point: 1,843°C (3,347°F).
  • Solubility: Insoluble in water, acids, and organic solvents.

2. Uses:

  • Pigments: It is one of the most commonly used white pigments in products like paints, coatings, plastics, paper, and cosmetics, due to its brightness and high refractive index.
  • Sunscreens: Titanium dioxide is used in sunscreens and other skincare products because it acts as a physical UV filter, blocking ultraviolet radiation.
  • Food Industry: It is used as a food coloring agent (E171) in products like candies, ice creams, and pastries, although its use in food products is being reviewed in some regions due to potential health concerns.
  • Photocatalysis: It is used in environmental applications, such as air and water purification, thanks to its ability to catalyze chemical reactions under UV light.
  • Electronics: Titanium dioxide is used in the production of certain semiconductors, as well as in energy applications like solar cells.

3. Environmental and Health Considerations:

  • There are ongoing discussions about the safety of titanium dioxide in food and cosmetics. Some studies have raised concerns about its potential toxicity when inhaled or ingested in large amounts, especially in nanoparticle form.
  • However, titanium dioxide in larger particle forms is generally considered safe for use in various applications.

4. Natural Sources:

  • Titanium dioxide is found in nature as the minerals rutile, anatase, and brookite. These minerals are extracted from ores such as ilmenite and rutile ore.

In summary, titanium dioxide is a versatile and important material used across many industries for its properties like whiteness, UV protection, and photocatalytic abilities. However, its safety, especially in nano form, continues to be evaluated.
