Antioxidants

Updated: Mar 11, 2021

Antioxidants are chemical substances either natural or manmade which prevent the oxidation of reaction from occurring which may lead to the release of a free radical resulting in a chain reaction. This chain reaction is unhealthy for the body as it damages the cells of organisms.

Antioxidant rich food

Oxygen is one of the essential components for the body as well as the most harmful when it starts reacting with other reactions due to its high reactivity and damages the cells around it. Thus, controlling these reactions is necessary. When there is a build-up of free radicals in the body, it is said that the body is under oxidative stress which could be due to various reasons like inflammation, pollution, UV exposure, over-exercise, excessive consumption of processed foods, chemical interaction, etc. These conditions are harmful to the body and can result in various health issues like arthritis, stroke, cancer, respiratory, immune deficiency, Parkinson’s disease, etc.

Antioxidants are called radical scavengers as they react with free radicals preventing a chain reaction by preventing the oxygen from reacting with it. They are also believed to increase cell growth as well as eradicate unhealthy cells.

Antioxidants are naturally found in dark chocolate, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, kale, beans, beet, spinach, etc.

The addition of antioxidants in processed food products is necessary, to protect the consumer from health issues caused due to unforeseen oxidative reactions hurting the body.

A few of the antioxidants are:

Mix Tocopherol 50%, Mix Tocopherol + Rosemary oil

Mix tocopherol other than just showing antioxidant properties it also has functions like reduce hair loss, promote healing of the wound, reduce skin inflammation, improve blood circulation, maintain heart health, and also shows anticoagulation properties

They are widely used in the food industry like vegetable oil, animal feed, beverages, and other food products. It is also widely used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry.
